Asbestos notification

The Schuylerville Central School District will be conducting asbestos-related remediation beginning Friday, April 3, the first day of spring break. The process is expected to take approximately 7 days.

The project will take place in a non-student-access corridor within the elementary school’s student services vestibule, by the wall to the outdoor classroom. The project involves a limited amount of material associated with painted block walls. Work will be performed by Jupiter Environmental Services and will include scraping of painted surfaces, resealing, and the application of a primer coat.

There is no present danger if the wall remains undisturbed. The material is currently stable, consisting of peeled paint with no disturbance to the underlying primer. However, remediation is being conducted as a precaution, as the prep work for repainting (which is our intention) could cause the material to become friable (crumbly), which may release particles into the air.

Atlantic Environmental will conduct air quality testing during the project to ensure all safety standards are maintained; all work will be completed in accordance with applicable safety regulations and environmental guidelines. Air sampling results and waste manifest records will be maintained on file upon completion of the project.
