605 elementary students gathered on the playground’s hillside for a meaningful, school-wide tree planting of a white pine tree, an act symbolizing growth, unity, and shared values. 4th grade teacher Mr. Carner connected the planting to the region’s Iroquois heritage, referencing the symbolism of trees as living representations of peace and strength. He then tied that message to Schuylerville Elementary School’s core values, the “3 B’s”: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.
As part of the ceremony, students read aloud examples of the 3 B’s they had written on paper. Those messages were then placed into the planting hole before the tree was set, literally rooting their values into the ground as the tree took its place!

Thanks to the generosity and collaboration of Schuylerville Elementary PEP, every student also received a Red Oak sapling from the Saratoga Tree Nursery to take home and plant. (For students with allergies, Pine Oaks were provided.) Each sapling included a simple planting guide to help families get started.
“This special gift is more than just a tree, it’s an opportunity for families to come together, connect with nature, and create something lasting,” said Pete Carner. “As the children grow and learn over the years, our hope is the tree will grow right alongside them; a living symbol of their journey.”
