League of Women Voters visits Female Empowerment Club, inspires student civic action

Members of the Saratoga County League of Women Voters visited Schuylerville High School’s Female Empowerment Club, engaging students in a meaningful conversation about civic participation, voter registration, and the power of using one’s voice.

During the visit, students learned about the voter registration and pre-registration process, as well as ways young people can connect with local legislators in Albany and become more involved in their communities. Founded with the mission of helping women gain access to the vote, the League has grown into a nonpartisan organization focused on encouraging informed and active participation in government for all. The League also highlighted the importance of local elections, where outcomes can sometimes be decided by just a few votes, reinforcing their message that every vote truly counts.

Gracie Sisson registers to vote

One of the most impactful moments of the visit came when junior Gracie Sisson took the step to officially pre-register to vote. Her action captured the spirit of the discussion and reflects the core mission of the Female Empowerment Club, helping students recognize their voice and their ability to make a difference.

“This is such a huge step and encapsulates everything our Female Empowerment Club aims to instill in our high school members,” said advisor Erica DiLello. “I’m really hoping this momentum inspires even more of our students to get involved and make their presence felt in our community.”
