Two students have made school history by earning selection to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State ensembles, performing at the All-State Conference in Rochester. Jason McCaughey and Sarah DeLaCruz were the first Schuylerville students to be accepted into All-State ensembles during their junior year, marking a significant milestone for the high school music program, led by Michael Craner and Jodi Ogburn.
McCaughey was selected to perform with the All-State Mixed Choir, while DeLaCruz earned a spot in the All-State Symphonic Band, performing French horn alongside some of the state’s most accomplished young musicians. Reflecting on the experience, McCaughey described the conference as inspiring and energizing.
“It was absolutely amazing,” he said. “Everyone there was so proficient, and the director was absolutely fantastic. All of the students had the same energy level, the same skill level, and the same sound. It was amazing.”

DeLaCruz echoed the same sense of pride and honor in representing her school at the state level.
“I felt so honored to be with the 16 other French horns that were there,” she said. “It was honestly amazing.”
