Schuylerville’s BackPack Program receives $1,500 donation

Schuylerville CSD’s BackPack Program has been awarded $1,500 from the 2023 BackPack Heroes campaign, to  support the work of the district’s program throughout the 2023-24 school year.

BackPack Heroes is sponsored by the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern NY, Fidelis Care, and CBS6, with this year’s campaign raising $106,000! The funds were dispersed among 50 BackPack programs that cumulatively serve more than 1,100 students.

Schuylerville’s Backpack Program assists students in grades K-12 on a weekly basis. Every Friday, students whose families are in need confidentially take home a backpack with breakfast, lunch, and dinner supplies for the weekend. The backpack also includes snacks, a loaf of bread and a Stewart’s gift card for a 1/2 gallon of milk. The program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children on weekends. Families do not need to qualify for free or reduced-price meals (or meet any other qualifications) in order to be part of the backpack program, and all requests are kept confidential.

“Our program will tremendously benefit from this generous donation,” said Schuylerville coordinators Pam Driscoll and Cassie Luthringer. “We are very appreciative as we continue to work to assist families in need.”
