District’s backpack program taking requests for the new school year

The district’s Backpack Program, which assists students in grades K-12 on a weekly basis, is taking requests for the 2022-23 school year. Every Friday, students whose families are in need confidentially take home a backpack with breakfast, lunch, and dinner supplies for the weekend. The backpack also includes snacks, a loaf of bread and a Stewart’s gift card for a 1/2 gallon of milk. The program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children on weekends.

While requests will be taken throughout the year, the program’s organizers would appreciate students or families reaching out by Thursday, Sept. 22. Families do not need to qualify for free or reduced-price meals (or meet any other qualifications) in order to be part of the backpack program. All requests are kept confidential.
