District names James Ducharme as Acting Superintendent

During a Feb. 23 Board of Education special meeting, the Board approved the request from Superintendent of Schools Gregg Barthelmas for a personal leave of absence. The leave of absence will be Monday, Feb. 26 through March 11, but may be extended.

During the special meeting, the Board appointed James Ducharme as Acting Superintendent of Schools, beginning Monday, Feb. 26 and for the duration of Superintendent Barthelmas’ leave of absence. As a school administrator, Mr. Ducharme holds two certifications: School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL). The Board and district will be working to provide additional support at the high school while Mr. Ducharme serves as acting superintendent.

“Mr. Ducharme is an established and respected leader in the Schuylerville community, who has spent years cultivating relationships with students, faculty, staff, and families,” said Board of Education President Michael Bodnar. “The Board has great confidence in Mr. Ducharme as Acting Superintendent. We know and trust he will make decisions in the best interest of all students and the district, which is always our ultimate goal.”
