Schuylerville High School students participate in District 3 FFA leadership development events


37 Schuylerville High School students participated in the District 3 FFA Leadership Development Events, hosted at Cambridge Central School District. The event provides members opportunities to develop essential leadership skills, including public speaking, decision-making, communication, and parliamentary procedure. The following students will advance and represent Schuylerville at the Eastern Region Sub-State Competition at Windsor High School on March 14. 

Agricultural Issues Forum

Teams research a current agricultural topic and give a 15-minute presentation demonstrating their knowledge of both sides of the issue.

  • 1st Place Team: Shane Barraclough, Kyla Brady, Peyton Delisle, Ella Eichorst, Anika Laciokova, Juliet Letzring, and Jack Sydor
  • 2nd Place Team: Dean Barraclough, Lilly Delessio, Raelyn Englehart, Skylar Foster, Riley Jacobs, Alexander Palmer, and Ava Reese

Employment Skills

Students complete an application, cover letter, resume, and job interview for a position they are interested in and qualified for.

Senior People in Agriculture

Students present a 6-8 minute speech and media presentation on a career within the agricultural industry and answer five minutes of questioning on their job.

Senior Prepared Speaking

Students present a 6-8 minute speech from memory and answer five minutes of questioning.

Senior Creed Speaking

Students in grades 10-12 recite the FFA Creed by memory and answer questions.

  • 6th Place: Toni Woodcock

Junior Creed Speaking

Students in grades 7-9 recite the FFA Creed by memory and answer questions.

Junior People in Agriculture

Students design a poster highlighting careers in various agricultural pathways, then present the careers and expand on one of their interests.

  • 3rd Place: Henry Peck 

Junior Prepared Public Speaking

Students write a 4-6 minute speech on an agricultural topic and answer three minutes worth of questions.

  • 3rd Place: Lincoln Rust

Junior Extemporaneous Speaking

Students draw a topic and write a 3-5 minute speech on the topic and answer questions.

Other competitors representing Schuylerville included the Conduct of Chapter Meetings team, which placed 4th overall. Team members were Alice Armstrong, Alaina Carpenter, Sadie Dennis, Michael Dwyer, Makayla Reilly, Nora Schwerd, Michael Starowicz, and Ashley Wood. Placing 8th in Employment Skills was Wilder Gamage. Additional competitors included: Junior People in Agriculture, Bryson Windisch; Senior Prepared Speaking, Lilyanna Wood; Senior People in Agriculture, Toni Woodcock and Gracie Wood; Senior Creed Speaking, Nayah Alikonis, Mekedes Delair, and Riley Jacobs; and Junior Creed Speaking, Madison Goossens and Sadie Dennis.
