Ms. Bean

School Counselor, Grades 9

Carrie Bean

Ms. Bean has worked at Schuylerville since the 2002-2003 school year. As a career education counselor, she is focused on helping students get a better understanding of the types of careers that are available to them as well as arranges for them to get “real-world” experience through the district’s internship program.

Ms. Bean also is responsible for guiding students with their career preparation. This includes working with the students through practice interviews, resume writing, learning how to dress for the job and much more!

Additionally, she works with the local business community to build partnerships for the mentoring/internship program and to increase the community’s awareness of the program.

Prior to coming to the Schuylerville School District, Ms. Bean was a career counselor at Sage College where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She earned her master’s degree in guidance and counseling, as well as her post-master’s certificate at Sage Graduate School. Ms. Bean is a 1987 graduate of Schuylerville High School.

Mrs. O’Brien

Mrs. O’Brien began working for the Schuylerville School District in the 2006-07 school year. Prior to coming here she had a counseling internship in the district’s Student Services office while she was earning her master’s degree in guidance & counseling from Sage Graduate School. Mrs. O’Brien also has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Albany.

Mrs. O’Brien assists students and their families in developing educational, career and personal goals. She assists students with completing college applications and helping to prepare for life after graduation. Additionally, Mrs. O’Brien offers peer mediation when necessary, facilitates parent-teacher meetings, monitors student progress/achievement and communicates with parents.

Creating a safe and comfortable environment for all students is a top priority and I strive to continually advocate in the best interest of our students and school community.”

Mrs. Rust

School Counselor, Grades 10-12

Sarah Rust

Mrs. Rust has served as a high school counselor in the Schuylerville Central School District since 2016. Prior to joining the Student Services team at Schuylerville, she spent ten years as a high school counselor in the Corinth Central School District.

In her role, Mrs. Rust supports students and families across all grade levels, guiding them through academic planning, goal-setting, the college application process, and post-secondary decision-making. She also assists with course selection, conflict resolution, and overall student well-being. In addition, Mrs. Rust collaborates closely with teachers to monitor student progress and facilitates parent-teacher conferences to ensure student success.

Ms. Maciariello

School Psychologist, Grades 9-12

Karen Maciariello

Ms. Maciariello began working in the district in the 2006-07 school year. Prior to coming to Schuylerville, she was a school psychologist at the Cornwall Central School District for five years. Before working at Cornwall, she was a mental health worker at Four Winds in Saratoga.

Born and raised in Italy, Ms. Maciariello moved to the United States to attend Skidmore College where she doubled majored in psychology and English. She went on to earn a master’s degree in school psychology at the College of Saint Rose.

As the grades 9-12 school psychologist, Ms. Maciariello is responsible for evaluating and assessing students to determine if they are struggling with learning disabilities, behavioral, and/or emotional concerns. She conducts academic, behavioral and cognitive assessments for the Committee on Special Education (CSE) as well as for the Section 504 Committee. Furthermore, she provides group and individual counseling and works with the district’s CSE to provide students and their families with appropriate services. She is a member of the high school’s MTSS (Multi Tiered Support Systems) Team to assist struggling students with viable academic, behavioral, and/or social emotional supportive strategies. Ms. Maciariello is also responsible for providing CSE students with group and individual counseling and working with the district’s CSE to provide students and their families with appropriate services. She also runs the peer mentoring program at the high school, during which students build camaraderie, get to know one another through fun activities, and inclusion happens naturally.
