Section II – Strategic Technology Planning

What is the overall district mission?

At Schuylerville Central School District, the academic achievement and development of the whole child will be the driving force in enriching opportunities for all students through academics and extracurricular activities.

The Schuylerville Central School District’s mission of schooling, caring and succeeding is a mission for all of our students. The academic achievement and development of the whole child will be the driving force in enriching opportunities for all students through academics and extracurricular activities. 

The district emphasizes that it has zero tolerance for racism of any kind. As a public school entity, we firmly believe that it is our moral obligation and civic duty to provide a fair and equitable education for all students. This has always been our cornerstone and always will be. We will always review our practices and policies to ensure we continue to foster a supportive educational environment for all students. We support and recognize the important role diversity plays in our school community and community at large, and remain committed to making sure our district culture reflects that.

The Schuylerville Central School District’s K-12 educational program will prepare students to be technologically literate individuals. With a focus on lifelong learning, our students will be able to make informed decisions about the role of technology in their lives. Students should have the opportunity to develop technology skills that support learning, personal productivity, and decision-making. While we know that the day-to-day work of great teaching and learning in every classroom is what yields results for all students, innovative technology use is also crucial for providing the best possible instruction. Crafted through research and a review of best practices, with input from key stakeholders and technology experts, our vision for technology in the district is not merely to have students consume it, but to use it to create, collaborate, communicate globally, and spread positivity that will not only prepare our students for today but also for their futures.

Section IV – Action Plan

Goal 1

Over the next three years, Schuylerville Central Schools will research, plan, and implement a district-wide instructional technology ecosystem that enhances K-12 teaching and learning. This initiative will focus on strategically selecting innovative instructional software, including literacy and AI tools, that aligns with New York State Standards, supports core curriculum instruction, and promotes student engagement across all grade levels and subject areas. The district will provide structured professional development for all staff, evaluate and refine programs based on ongoing data analysis, ensure accessibility for all students, and maintain compliance with New York State Education Law 2-d.

Goal 1 Action Steps

Action Steps

1.  Evaluation:  The district will continuously evaluate all purchased and utilized software to ensure effectiveness, alignment with instructional goals, and responsible use of resources. This evaluation will occur through staff surveys, grade-level and department meetings, and analysis of actual software usage data.
2. Research:  The district will research and evaluate new software solutions by gathering feedback from teaching staff, collaborating through discussions at grade-level and department meetings, and consulting with neighboring school districts to identify effective and innovative tools that support teaching and learning.
3. Planning:  The district will plan, pilot, and implement software solutions in collaboration with teaching staff, working closely with instructional leaders and professionals such as the curriculum coordinator to ensure alignment with curricular goals and instructional needs.
4. Professional Development: The district will provide ongoing professional development for teaching staff to ensure software is implemented effectively and with fidelity, maximizing its instructional impact and supporting meaningful student learning outcomes.
5. Implementation:  The district will pilot software implementations with volunteer teaching staff to gather real-time data on effectiveness, usability, and instructional impact prior to broader districtwide adoption.
6. Collaboration:  Administration and teaching staff will collaborate regularly to review how software is being utilized with students, analyze usage and performance data, and make informed decisions to optimize instructional effectiveness.
7. Evaluation:  The district will use collected data and feedback from all stakeholders, including staff and students, to guide decisions on which software should be purchased and implemented district-wide, ensuring alignment with instructional goals and student learning needs.
8. Budgeting:  The district will conduct annual budgeting reviews to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of software purchases, considering both district-wide needs and the specific requirements of individual buildings, to ensure responsible use of resources.

Goal 2

The district will implement a three-year phased transition to a unified Google ecosystem, with the goal of moving approximately 90% of staff to Google-managed devices and Google Workspace tools by 2029. The district will discontinue purchasing Windows devices and standardize on Google Chrome devices, including converting existing compatible hardware when appropriate.

This transition will strengthen cybersecurity, reduce long-term device and maintenance costs, streamline device management, simplify onboarding for new hires and substitutes, and ensure consistent instructional tools across all buildings. By standardizing our technology platform, the district will create a more secure, efficient, and cohesive teaching and learning environment that supports instructional continuity and operational effectiveness.

2. Planning:  Stakeholders involved in budgeting will collaboratively plan a three-year transition strategy to convert staff from Windows devices to Chrome devices, outlining timelines, resource allocation, and support structures to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation across the district.
3. Professional Development:  The district will provide targeted professional development to staff transitioning to Google devices, leveraging the expertise of individuals who are already proficient in using 100% Google-based tools to ensure a smooth and effective adoption.
4. Implementation:  The district will implement software and device transitions first with staff who are most ready and comfortable, while developing a phased timeline and decision points to guide broader implementation based on feedback, effectiveness, and readiness.
5. Budgeting:  The district will develop a three-year timeline and conduct annual budgeting to ensure the purchase of sufficient devices to complete the full transition, aligning resources with planned implementation phases and staff needs.

Schuylerville CSD will establish a structured lifecycle management plan to regularly evaluate, update, and replace network hardware, software, and security systems to ensure optimal performance and prevent obsolescence. Through continuous monitoring, data-informed decision-making, and strategic investment, the District will sustain a technology environment that is safe, resilient, and capable of supporting current and future educational initiatives.

Collaboration:  Stakeholders involved in budgeting will collaboratively plan a three-year transition strategy to convert staff from Windows devices to Chrome devices, outlining timelines, resource allocation, and support structures to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation across the district.
3. Planning:  Develop and implement a three-year technology replacement and purchasing plan to ensure sustainable upgrades to devices, infrastructure, and critical systems
4. Budgeting:  Establish a three-year budgeting plan to support the purchase and replacement of devices, infrastructure, and critical technology systems.
5. Purchasing:  Implement a three-year purchasing plan to replace and upgrade devices that support the renewal of critical technology infrastructure.

How will the district’s use of instructional technology support a comprehensive and sustained effort to improve student performance and academic standards, while also addressing the need to provide equitable learning opportunities “everywhere, all the time” (National Technology Plan)?

The district’s use of instructional technology will support a comprehensive and sustained effort to improve student performance by ensuring that all students have equitable access to the same devices, software, and digital learning tools. By providing consistent access to technology, we will create a level playing field where every student can engage in meaningful, personalized learning experience anytime and anywhere. Teachers will integrate technology into instruction to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, while digital platforms will support differentiated learning and real-time feedback. Ongoing professional development for staff will ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement, ultimately leading to higher academic achievement and stronger alignment with state and national standards.
