Water quality testing

Dear Schuylerville families,

The district received results of water quality testing that is conducted in accordance with a requirement of all New York State public schools to test all sources of potable water for lead contamination. The State Department of Health and State Education Department have established an action level threshold of 15 parts per billion. Water sources that test higher must be immediately taken out of service and corrective action must be taken.

Of the 381 water sources tested, four outlets tested above the action level of 15 PPB. These outlets have been marked by the building head custodians as hand washing only, do not drink. The four faucets, identified below, were used for hand washing and cleaning purposes only this past school year; all water fountains throughout the district were capped and replaced with water filling stations per COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Locations

High School

  • Boys bathroom, second floor by library:  23.2 parts per billion

Elementary school

  • Room 19 fountain: 150 parts per billion
  • Room 49 sink: 531 parts per billion
  • Boys locker room sink: 85.1 parts per billion

The district will be working to replace or remediate the affected water pipes and fixtures. As a follow-up, additional water tests will be conducted to determine if the replacement/remediation was successful before placing the water sources back in service.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the district office.

Thank you,

Dr. Ryan Sherman
Superintendent
