Universal Prekindergarten update

The Schuylerville Central School District’s Universal Prekindergarten committee met in October and November to evaluate the need and potential rollout of UPK for district students and families. In addition, the district received 145 survey responses from families who will have a child eligible for UPK in the coming year or years. The goal of the committee is to ultimately develop a sustainable program that meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of four-year-old children within our district.

The district, with support of the committee, has published a request for proposal (RFP) seeking an agency to support a UPK program for Schuylerville CSD. The district is considering either an off-site or on-site UPK program to support two, full-day classrooms of 18 students each (36 total students enrolled per school year.) A determination of program location will take place after proposals are received and reviewed.

The RFP was published on Friday, Dec. 9; proposals are due to the elementary school main office by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. The community can expect another update by the end of January in the district’s continued effort of a potential implementation of UPK.
