Kickin' Out Cancer boys soccer gameThe Schuylerville CSD school community helped raise more than $9,000 during the 2023 Kickin’ Out Cancer fundraising event, a record amount! Led by Shannon Vallee, Dave Gauci, Paul Rogan, and Jenn Pemrick, students, faculty, staff, and athletic teams raised money to benefit the Schuylerville Elementary School Kindness Closet that will be established in honor of Dave Mehan.

Kickin' Out Cancer field hockey gameThe culminating Kickin’ Out Cancer events were held on Oct. 3 during the afternoon field hockey and evening boys varsity soccer game, and included basket raffles, a halftime walk, 50/50, and concession stand sales. The week prior, fundraising also occurred during the girls varsity soccer game on Sept. 30. An additional $500 was donated by the field hockey team following its PINK/cancer awareness game. The money will be donated to the Beth Roberts memorial scholarship that benefits graduating seniors.

Thank you to Sol Enterprises/Schuylerville Pizza & Pasta who sponsored the 2023 Kickin’ Out Cancer event, as well as Documents Tailors and Juliette Funiciello. A final show of support was seen across campus the day after, when K-12 students dressed in pink and purple, or wore Kickin’ Out Cancer apparel.

“Every year, our Kickin’ Out Cancer event is a tremendous showing of the support our school community is willing to give in the name of cancer awareness,” said Shannon Vallee. “This year, we raised a record amount of money, which will be an incredible jumpstart to the elementary school’s Kindness Closet. Dave Mehan was a very special individual whose impact was vast. We are so proud to carry on his legacy in this way.”
