Veterans Day acts of kindness

Dear Grades K-5 families,

Schuylerville Elementary School will be honoring our veterans both locally and abroad this year, in anticipation of Veterans Day on Nov. 11. We have two acts of kindness that we invite our K-5 students to participate in.

Thank you cards

We invite students to write a “thank you for your service” card or letter that will be collected and distributed to veterans at our local American Legion and to veterans at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. The cards or letters can be written and returned to your child’s classroom teacher. We will collect the cards through Thursday, Nov. 4; he cards will be delivered to each facility for distribution to our veterans on Veterans Day.

Treats for Troops

Have you ever wondered what to do with all your leftover Halloween candy? Treats for Troops has provided a solution!

  • Schuylerville Elementary School has registered with Treats for Troops as a private collection site
  • Families can donate candy to the school (a collection box will be provided)
  • Candy collected will be mailed to Treats for Troops
  • Treats for Troops will forward the candy to members of the military stationed around the country and the world

Students are invited to send in candy during the week after Halloween, (Nov. 1-5.) On Friday, Nov. 5, we will weigh the candy and mail it out to Treats for Troops.  Thank you to Parents as Education Partners (PEP) for helping to support this work!

We thank you in advance for your time and donations to our veterans!  If you have any questions, please contact Rae Lynn Gonyea at gonyear@schuylerville.org.

Sincerely,

Rose Beckett
Elementary Principal
