The Schuylerville Central School District recognizes that many students will be diagnosed with a severe food allergy or other circumstance warranting dietary accommodations at breakfast and/or lunch. Parents requesting modifications should work with a licensed healthcare provider (physician, nurse practitioner, or PA) to get get a signed letter stating the following:
- The food(s) to be avoided
- Brief explanation of how exposure affects the student
- Recommended substitute(s)
Documentation should be submitted to the school nurse at the beginning of the year, or as soon as the diagnosis is made. Parents should also contact the Director of Food Service to discuss the requested modification(s) in relation to the school menus if substitutions are being requested. Upon approval, meal modifications will be made as needed during the students’ regular meal times at school.
If a modification is denied, parents have the right to file a grievance. Parents should first contact the Director of Food Service to appeal the decision. A review team consisting of the building nurse, Director of Food Service, and district 504 Coordinator will conduct a review and make a final decision of the modification.
