Wrestling team receives sportsmanship award

Members of the Schuylerville Varsity Wrestling Team are being recognized for their character and integrity during the winter sports season. The Foothills Council has awarded the team the Sportsmanship Award. Coach Erik Johanson says his team takes pride in representing the school and town in a respectful manner whether it is a home or away function.

“In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter how well we wrestled, but how well we carried ourselves in doing so,” Johanson said. “Our wrestlers have displayed a great level of determination and character throughout the season and will continue to do so.”

The Schuylerville varsity wrestling team completed a successful season with three members of the team being named to the Foothills Council All-Star first team and one member taking second place in the 99 pound weight class at the New York State wrestling championships.

“The team and Coach Johanson should be very proud of their accomplishments,” Athletic Director Heath Morris said. “They showed pride and leadership throughout the season and competed at a very high level.”
