The Schuylerville varsity tennis team wrapped up its banner season on Wednesday, May 13 with its only loss of the season. The team finished with an overall record of 17-1 and won the Foothills League Title with a league record of 14-0.
The Black Horses finished runner-up in Section II Class B for team sectionals after a 4-3 loss to Ichabod Crane at Shenendehowa High School. Over the past three years, the team has secured three league titles, two Section II Class B titles and one Section II Class B runner-up.
“The success they’ve had is the result of their hard work, commitment and especially, their overall talent and skill-set as tennis players,” said Coach Matthew Steinfort. “In addition to all of these attributes, they are just a pleasure to coach and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to work with them.”
Six players also represented Schuylerville at individual sections held at Schenectady Central Park on May 18:
- Kai Kobori-Hotchkiss (singles)
- Spencer Swoboda (singles)
- Mike Burkett/Cody Durr (doubles)
- Ben McInerney/David Murphy (doubles)
The team is losing only three seniors to graduation (Ben McInerney, Rebecca Walsh and David Murphy) and expects to be very competitive in 2016.
