Varsity tennis team wins Foothills league title

Tennis TeamThe Schuylerville varsity tennis team wrapped up its banner season on Wednesday, May 13 with its only loss of the season. The team finished with an overall record of 17-1 and won the Foothills League Title with a league record of 14-0.

The Black Horses finished runner-up in Section II Class B for team sectionals after a 4-3 loss to Ichabod Crane at Shenendehowa High School. Over the past three years, the team has secured three league titles, two Section II Class B titles and one Section II Class B runner-up.

“The success they’ve had is the result of their hard work, commitment and especially, their overall talent and skill-set as tennis players,” said Coach Matthew Steinfort. “In addition to all of these attributes, they are just a pleasure to coach and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to work with them.”

Six players also represented Schuylerville at individual sections held at Schenectady Central Park on May 18:

  • Kai Kobori-Hotchkiss (singles)
  • Spencer Swoboda (singles)
  • Mike Burkett/Cody Durr (doubles)
  • Ben McInerney/David Murphy (doubles)

The team is losing only three seniors to graduation (Ben McInerney, Rebecca Walsh and David Murphy) and expects to be very competitive in 2016.
