Two Schuylerville High School students have been selected to attend the prestigious 2018 New England Young Writers’ Conference at Middlebury College in Vermont this May. Junior Sophie Macchi was selected for her fictional piece “The Outsider” and sophomore Meghan Clark was invited for her fictional piece “Forte Piano.” Clark says she never imagined her work would be selected.

“I honestly screamed when I found out,” Clark said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The four-day conference offers seminars, workshops, readings and opportunities to meet fellow writers. Macchi and Clark will get to work with published authors in small group settings to gain inspiration and develop skills.

“I’m excited to meet other kids who share an interest in writing,” Clark said. “I think it will be great to interact with other authors and get their advice to better my writing.”

“It’s going to be a whole weekend of art and that’s incredible,” Macchi said. “It’s a dream come true!” The conference runs from May 17-20.
