Sixth-graders Grace Lail and Hannah Citron will represent the district at the 37th annual Capital Region Spelling Bee at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady on Tuesday, March 5 after winning the elementary and middle school spelling bee in December. The local spelling bee went 16 rounds with nearly two dozen students competing. Lail finished in first place with the correct spelling of “writhing.” Citron placed second. Seventh-grader Christopher Nastacie came in third.

The Capital Region Spelling Bee includes written spelling, vocabulary testing and oral spelling. The winner will advance to the 92nd Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
