Students sample new recipe at lunch

Chocolate hummusFood Services intern McKenna Lickle created a new recipe to taste with elementary and middle school students for Try it Tuesday in April: chocolate hummus. The hummus was made from blended chickpeas, cocoa powder, honey, brown sugar, and vanilla. Students sampled it with freshly sliced apples from Saratoga Apple and whole grain graham crackers. Everyone enjoyed trying something new!

Try it Tuesday began as a partnership between the Green Ribbon Team and Food Services back in 2016. The cafeteria continues to introduce students to new fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods throughout the year.

1 15 oz can (1.5 cups) chickpeas
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup tahini (optional; did not use in school recipe)
