Schuylerville High School students in Debora Cahan’s equine science distance learning class met with some of the top professionals in the equine industry as part of a day-long field trip on Jan. 30. Fifteen Schuylerville students, along with students from Granville and Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville, who are also part of the distance learning class, took part in the field trip. The trip started with a visit to the Stark Family Race Farm, where students toured the facility and saw Standardbred pacers and trotters jog. The students then went to Rood and Riddle, one of the largest equine veterinary clinics in the world, where Dr. Morgan O’Brien gave a tour of the high-tech facility and talked to the students about the equine veterinary industry. The final stop on the field trip was the McMahon Thoroughbreds, where John McMahon explained his breeding program and students got to see newborn foals. The students say they had a great day of learning and exploring opportunities.
