Schuylerville High School senior Xavier Jones took second place in plumbing at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Championships from April 25 to 27 in Syracuse. Jones was among thousands of students who competed in the statewide event. The event consisted of several different competitions, with each competition measuring a student’s hands-on skills in his or her chosen field of study. Students were given an assignment that had to be completed within a set time frame and business and industry leaders judged the competition. Jones advanced through local SkillsUSA competitions and a regional competition to earn the chance to compete at the state championships.
