Schuylerville sophomore takes second place at Eastern State Wrestling Classic

Schuylerville High School sophomore Orion Anderson took second place at the annual Eastern State Wrestling Classic on Jan. 16. Anderson, along with Tyler Green and Anthony Cardinuto, made up the team that represented the Black Horses during the two-day event at Sullivan County Community College.

Anderson went 4-1 in the tournament with two pins and two major decisions. He lost in the finals to the No. 1 wrestler in the country. Green went 5-2 and finished seventh. Cardinuto went 1-2. As a team, Schuylerville finished 16 out of 150 schools.

“The Eastern State Wrestling Classic attracts many state title contenders and is known as the toughest tournament in New York state,” coach Erik Johanson said. “We had the highest place finish of any Section II team and we’re very proud of that.”
