Schuylerville High School junior Quinn Spencer has been selected to attend the prestigious 2016 New England Young Writers’ Conference at Middlebury College in Vermont this May. The highly competitive program received 400 applicants this year and only 160 were invited to attend the conference. Spencer was accepted for a poem he wrote and submitted.
“I applied because I love writing, but I was shocked when I found out I was accepted,” Spencer said. “I think it will be a great experience and I feel very fortunate to be able to take part in it.”
The four-day Young Writers’ Conference offers seminars, workshops, readings and opportunities to meet fellow writers. Students will get to work with published authors in small group settings to gain inspiration and develop skills.
“I think it will be a lot of fun to go in not knowing anybody, but know that everyone there loves writing as much as I do,” Spencer said. “I’m excited to learn from published authors and come out of this a better writer.”
