Dear Parents/Guardians:
Interested juniors, along with sophomores who are enrolled in Honors English and/or Accelerated Math, will be administered the PSAT/NMSQT examination on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in the high school at 8:00 a.m. The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that provides first hand practice for the SAT Reasoning test. It measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills that students have developed over the course of their education. The PSAT serves as a valuable tool because it allows students, parents and counselors the opportunity to see where additional preparation may be needed as students ready themselves for the SAT. In addition, many students who take this exam also feel less anxiety when they take the SAT.
For high school juniors, the PSAT also doubles as the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), which automatically qualifies students who have obtained high scores on the verbal, math and writing portion of the PSAT for scholarships.
Those students who wish to take the PSAT are to sign up with Mrs. Lyon in Student Services by Monday, Sept. 28. The cost for the PSAT is $17.00. Checks can be made payable to Schuylerville Central School and should be submitted when signing up for the test. Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch may obtain a fee waiver in the Student Services Office.
