Nearly two dozen Schuylerville Elementary and Middle School students will be performing solos for the community on Monday, Feb. 11 as they prepare for the upcoming New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival in March. The second annual Schuylerville Solo Recital Night will be held at the Schuylerville Public Library. The event is free and open to all community members. It is an opportunity for students to practice performing their solo in front of an audience. Performances will run from 6-6:30 p.m. and 7-7:30 p.m.
“It is a lovely evening of bringing music to the community, while allowing our young musicians to prepare in a supportive environment,” said music teacher Kaitlyn Koch. “We are so proud of our students for all of their hard work!”
About NYSSMA Solo Festival
Every year Schuylerville prepares several dozens of music students across grades 4-12 to participate in the NYSSMA Solo Festivals. Working with their music teacher, instrumental and vocal music students prepare a piece of solo repertoire, practice sight reading, and memorize scales, in preparation to perform for an adjudicator for a score and comments. Students who participate in the NYSSMA Solo Festivals are eligible to apply for membership in All-County and All-State ensembles. This year, NYSSMA Solo Festival will take place March 8 and 9 at Maple Ave Middle School in Saratoga Springs.
