Five members of the Schuylerville Middle School MathCounts club will be competing in a statewide competition in March. Eighth-graders Cody Belden, Cameron Wian, Liam Claus and Sam McGarrahan took second place at the annual Tri-County MathCounts competition on Feb. 4 at SUNY Adirondack. They will advance to the statewide competition on March 18 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. Eighth-grader Patrick McGloine will be attending as an alternate.
Schuylerville Middle School was one of six schools competing at the Tri-County competition, with nearly 50 competitors. Belden also finished third overall in the individual rounds and second during the countdown round. Wian finished sixth.
Besides team members above, the following students also attended the competition and participated unofficially: Colin Garry, Clare Sacks, Molly Nastacie, and Jack McGarrahan.
About MathCounts Club
MathCounts club meets once a week to work on building math skills and problem solving abilities. Between 10 and 15 students attend meetings on a regular basis.
