High School Transition Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Today, we take another important step in transitioning back to school in September, the release of student schedules. Our school counselors have been working extensively to balance courses, reduce class sizes, and meet the academic needs of our students as they plan for their future, while meeting the state guidelines for reopening. While you look over your student schedule on the ParentPortal, you will see lockers, study halls, lunch periods, and academic courses have been assigned. To meet the demand of balancing class sizes, please be aware that schedule changes are limited and will only be permitted to meet an academic requirement. We are unable to entertain schedule changes to request a preferred teacher or to move a scheduled lunch period.  The schedule is built for maximum efficiency and to make courses available to as many students as possible. At this time, we are still collaborating with W.S.W.H.E. BOCES to schedule our student’s rotation for their vocational programs. For more information regarding schedule changes and upcoming dates of importance, please review the August Newsletter from Student Services.

To ensure a safe transition back to school we have scheduled the following transition events specific for each grade level.

Transition Events (In-Person)

Students will be presented with an overview of the changes to ensure student and staff safety, view the Cafeteria, find lockers, and see a classroom. The 10th-12th Grade Sessions will be 60 minutes, Freshman sessions will be longer to accommodate for iPad Exchange and tours.

  • Senior Class Information Session for Students on 8/19
    • Students whose last name start with the letters A-K @ 10:30
    • Students whose last name start with the letters L-Z @ 12:30

Parent Information Nights (Online)

Online presentation of the reopening plan including a Q&A segment.

  • 8/20 @ 6:00 for Junior and Senior Parents
Freshman Transition Event (In-Person)

To provide students and staff with an opportunity to meet the Freshman class before starting the year on a Hybrid or Remote Model. Our goal is that every Freshman will meet their teachers for the first time in-person and not remotely.

  • Students whose last name start with the letters A-K @ 12:00 on 9/8
  • Students whose last name start with the letters L-Z @ 12:00 on 9/9
  • Students will report to the auditorium for an overview of the afternoon and an introduction of Freshman Teachers. Freshman will be dismissed with their first period teacher to their classroom. We will then follow an abbreviated schedule to allow students to meet each of their teachers in person and experience the layout of their schedule before the first day of school
Materials/Supplies

Student supplies vary by teacher and grade level. Every student will be provided with a clear bookbag to utilize throughout the day to cut down on the number of visits to their lockers. A clear bookbag will be the only allowable bookbag to be used by students.  We recommend that each student have a designated folder and or binder with a notebook for each class. With students and staff becoming more proficient with our iPad Pro’s and integrating technology many classes have become paperless. With the reduction of shared materials we recommend each student possess their own TI-84 calculator.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we continue to provide everyone with a safe transition back to school. Please visit the High School Re-Opening Page for more information on our plans to transition students back to school in September.  Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in September!

Sincerely,

James Ducharme
Principal
