Grades 10-12 summer letter

Dear grades 10-12 families,

I hope you are enjoying a nice summer.  It’s hard to believe that the start of the new school year is right around the corner! Today we are excited to release students’ schedules for the 2021-22 school year. Our school counselors have been working extensively to meet the academic needs of our students as they plan for their future.

Scheduling

To meet the demand of balancing class sizes, please be aware that schedule changes to request a preferred teacher or to move a scheduled lunch period will not be entertained.  Students are to be scheduled for at least six credits to stay on track for graduation; the Schuylerville Central School District requirement is 24 credits for graduation. If students are interested in adding courses to their schedule or making a schedule change, please utilize the Schedule Change Request Form.  In the coming weeks, study halls will be added to schedules in any open periods.  If you have any questions about your student’s schedule, please reach out to their school counselor.

Chromebooks

Schuylerville High School is excited to continue its 1:1 device initiative; this year we will be transitioning from iPads to Chromebooks.  While students have been working with an iPad in the past, with the infusion of Google products that students utilize, the district is moving to a device that will streamline technology platforms. Students will be able to pick up their Chromebooks on August 18 and 19 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the high school.

AP Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) courses allow students to take college-level course work while in high school.  Students enrolled in an AP course will be required to take the AP Exam associated with their class in May and pay for the AP Exam.  AP Exam costs have not been released by the CollegeBoard at this time.  Payment information will be sent out once exam costs are released.

Materials/Supplies

Student supplies vary by teacher and grade level. A comprehensive list by teacher is available on the school district website. For the 2021-22 school year, we will continue to allow students to utilize a clear bookbag/backpack to carry their supplies during the school day. We will have a limited number available for purchase in the main office if you are interested.

Additional Information

Please complete the following forms and return them to the appropriate office by September 17. This information will help us promote the health and safety of your student during the coming school year; thank you in advance for your prompt attention to them. (These forms are included in the mailing families will receive the week of July 26.)

In preparation for the increased level of activity that accompanies the start of the school year, I encourage parents to mark their calendars for high school student picture days on September 14 and 15, as well as the High School Open House on Tuesday, September 21.

As the summer continues, the district is awaiting guidance from the NYS Department of Health and State Education Department for the 2021-22 school year in regard to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Information will be sent to families as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the High School Main Office at 518-695-3255 ext. 2232. Have a great rest of the summer!

Sincerely,

James Ducharme
Schuylerville High School Principal
