Four high school students win essay contest, honored by Assemblywoman Woerner

Four Schuylerville High School students are being recognized by Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner for essays they wrote about women who have made a difference. Senior Gabrielle Wood, juniors Autumn Connor and Cody Durr, and sophomore Sidney Gregorek wrote the essays as part of Woerner’s first annual Women of Distinction Program. The program aims to recognize women who have gone above and beyond to positively impact their community.

“I enjoy writing and I thought it would be fitting to honor Malala Yousafzai. She’s an incredible activist who has fought for women’s education,” Durr said. “I never expected my essay to win an award.”

The four students received a letter of congratulations from Woerner and plan to attend her Women of Distinction awards ceremony at the Saratoga Arts Center on Sunday, May 1.
