Schuylerville’s FFA club will be competing in Indianapolis in October, after placing first in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management contest at The Great New York State Fair on Friday, Sept. 1. The contest, designed to help students develop skills in dairy cattle selection and herd management, tasked participants with evaluating the cattle’s physical characteristics, explaining their various classes and analyzing a herd record as a team. Teams were limited to four members and all four team members’ scores counted for the team total. Schuylerville’s team, made up of Adam King (first place), Johnny King (second place), Grace Hanehan (10th place) and Lainey Koval (10th place), had the highest overall score, winning the competition and qualifying for nationals. Schuylerville’s Jillian Peek acted as the FFA ambassador.
