Four Schuylerville High School students finished in the bronze division of the Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management competition at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Keira-Aileen Terry, Kaitlyn Hastings, Jillian Peek and Audrey Sickles all took part in the two-day competition from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25. The competition tested the student’s ability to select and manage quality dairy cattle. The first day of competition consisted of an individual dairy management test and a team activity. On the second day, students had to judge six classes of cows and present their reasoning to a panel of judges.

After their competition, students had the opportunity to take part in several other activities hosted by the national convention. They attended a career and college expo, watched career development events and listened to several guest speakers, including U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

“It was a life changing event,” said Sickles. “From the competition to the different convention events and guest speakers, it was truly an incredible experience.”
