Eight Schuylerville High School athletes shared ideas with more than 70 athletes from seven other schools during the Foothills Council’s Athletic Leadership Summit on May 12 at Fulton–Montgomery Community College. The groups talked about integrity in athletics, how to be an effective captain, setting a plan to achieve success and how to compromise through teamwork. The Schuylerville students who participated are listed below.
- Grace Pelletier-Hoblock, 9th grade
- Stratton Sherman, 9th grade
- Orion Anderson, 10th grade
- Amy Moreau, 10th grade
- Madeline Nevins, 11th grade
- Spencer Swoboda, 11th grade
- Joanna Gaetner, 12th grade
- Tyler Green, 12th grade
Each student was nominated by his or her coach to participate and the students were accompanied to the leadership summit by Coach Jason Mehan and Athletic Director Heath Morris.
“I think this was a valuable experience for the student-athletes who participated,” Morris said. “They had great ideas to share with the group and came away with tips on how to be an even better athlete, captain, teammate and student.”
At the event, Schuylerville High School was awarded the Margaret Robin Blowers Foothills Council Sportsmanship Award for the winter 2015 season.
