The Schuylerville Central School District is welcoming Rose Beckett as its new elementary school principal. Beckett was unanimously appointed by the Board of Education at its meeting on Feb. 7. She will begin on May 28, 2019 and take over for Gregg Barthelmas, who has served as elementary principal since 2010, on July 1, 2019. Barthelmas will become the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

“The Board is confident that Mrs. Beckett will provide strong and skilled leadership at Schuylerville Elementary School and continue to build on the success that Mr. Barthelmas created in his nine years as principal,” said Board of Education President Robert Thivierge. “We would like to thank our stakeholder group for their invaluable input and guidance as we navigated the search process and selected Mrs. Beckett from a pool of accomplished finalists.”

In her previous position, Beckett served as assistant principal of Koda Middle School in the Shenendehowa Central School District for six and a half years. She held the position of Dignity Act Coordinator and was a co-facilitator of the Middle School Climate Committee aimed at preventing bullying and recognizing students for choosing to display positive behaviors. She was a member of the Middle School Response to Intervention Committee that worked to create a matrix of multi-tiered supports for students in the areas of reading, writing, math and behavior, and reviewed curriculum maps in the areas of reading and writing to allow for a better academic transition to middle school for students. Beckett also previously held the position of interim principal at Acadia Middle School.

Prior to becoming an administrator, Beckett worked as a school counselor in the Shenendehowa Central School District, where she actively participated on the Koda Instructional Support Team, Committee of Special Education, Koda Partnership Team, Safety Team, MS Data Committee and District 21st Century Skills Team.

Beckett earned a Bachelor of Science in both Psychology and Child and Family Studies from The State University of New York College at Oneonta, as well as a Master of Science in School Counseling and a Post-Masters Certificate in School Counseling from Sage Graduate Schools. She also holds both a School Building Leader degree and School District Leader degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

“I am incredibly excited about joining the Schuylerville school community,” Beckett said. “I look forward to building relationships and supporting the traditions and achievements that have made this school exceptional. I cannot wait to get started.”

Beckett resides in Saratoga Springs with her husband Tim and their two children. Their son, Lars, is in first grade and their daughter, Vera, is two years old. Beckett enjoys spending time with her family, running and yoga.
