The Schuylerville Central School District held its 71st commencement on Saturday, June 24 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. 138 students graduated and more than 100 awards and scholarships were handed out. Welcoming remarks were given by Maydia Sorgie, the senior class president. She announced that the Class of 2017 would be making a sizable donation to the district’s Backpack Program, which provides qualifying students in the district with backpacks full of food to take home over the weekend. Valedictorian Cody Durr, Salutatorian Kaleigh Gale, Board of Education President Jack Macica and Principal Matthew Sickles also addressed the Class of 2017 and those in attendance.

Seniors from the SCS Vocal Ensemble performed the Star-Spangled Banner and the school’s Alma Mater. Later in the ceremony, seniors from the High School Chorus performed “I’ll Be There for You,” by the Rembrandts. The district also presented a veteran’s diploma posthumously to Louis J. Klender, the late grandfather of graduate Kaitlyn Congdon.
