District closed Dec. 18

Friday, Dec. 18 will be another snow day for the Schuylerville Central School District. While it was not our intention to use two snow days in a row this early in the winter season, the volume of snow we received overnight has made it extremely difficult to open. Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in 18 counties, with Saratoga County included.

Our district’s buildings and grounds department began the process of plowing this morning at 5:00; typically, by mid-afternoon on a snow day, campus is clear and buses are ready to transport for the following day. This was not the case today. With our buses stored outside, there is almost three feet of snow on top of them and lots in between. In addition, there are several back roads and neighborhoods still waiting to be plowed.

Lastly, in the interest of equal access to education, since we communicated that the first three snow days this season would be traditional snow days, we cannot guarantee all teachers and students would have the materials necessary to carry out remote instruction tomorrow. For all of the reasons listed above, the decision to close campus on Friday, Dec. 18 was made.
In-person learning will resume on Monday, Dec. 21 through Wednesday, Dec. 23 before the holiday break.

Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe!
