Dear Schuylerville High School seniors and parents/guardians,
While it may be difficult to believe, we are already preparing for the end of the school year and graduation for our departing seniors. I would like to take this opportunity to communicate some preliminary information regarding the commencement ceremony, but also highlight the work that still lies ahead as students and families prepare for that important milestone. The commencement ceremony is a special and memorable event that celebrates the collective and individual accomplishments of our graduates. We encourage all of our eligible students to take part in this celebration.
The 75th Annual Commencement Ceremony, in celebration of the Schuylerville High School Class of 2021, will be held on Friday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. in Black Horse Athletic Stadium, with a rain date of Saturday, June 26 (time TBD). Our own facility allows us to meet social distancing requirements, maintain family participation, and have a capstone event for our seniors on campus. Please note that all graduates must have an approved cap and gown in order to participate in the ceremony. If students have not yet ordered a cap and gown, please do so immediately by contacting Matt Oberkrieser at Jostens: 518-581-1468 or matt.oberkrieser@jostens.com.
Seating for graduation will be structured to account for social distancing and families must remain within their pods. Each student of the Class of 2021 will be provided with four graduation tickets assigned to a specific pod on the field. These will be for the four seats reserved for each family to attend the ceremony. There will be no other seats available within the pod section of seating. We are working on a plan to expand open seating behind the reserved pods and utilize the visitor bleachers; more details will be communicated as we get closer to graduation. All members of the Class of 2021 and guests at graduation will be required to wear an appropriate face covering at all times.
Graduation rehearsal will be held on campus on Wednesday, June 23 at 8:45 a.m. The rehearsal is mandatory for all graduates who plan to participate in the ceremony. Students who do not attend the rehearsal will not be allowed to take part in graduation, and separate arrangements will be made for the delivery of their diplomas. The rehearsal will begin promptly at 8:45a.m. and will last until 11:00 a.m. Students are advised to adjust their work schedules to accommodate the rehearsal. No student will be allowed to leave rehearsal early.
While it is very exciting to begin looking ahead to graduation, it is important to note there is a lot of important work left to do before diplomas are distributed on June 26. It is our goal for every member of the Class of 2021 to successfully complete their graduation requirements and participate in the commencement ceremony. We also look forward to the many opportunities and accomplishments that lie ahead after graduation. However, in order to ensure that these goals are achieved, it is critically important that our seniors remain focused and work hard through the end of the school year. The Schuylerville High School administration and staff will continue to work with students and their families to promote academic success and make graduation an attainable goal for all students. This will require good attendance and strong effort from all of our seniors. As students take part in all the excitement of the final few months of their high school careers, I encourage them to work hard, be responsible, and do everything necessary to finish on a positive note.
Additional information regarding the commencement ceremony will be mailed home during the month of May. This information will include participation in the mandatory rehearsal, dress code and arrival time for the commencement ceremony. In the meantime, please contact the high school main office with any questions (518-695-3255 ext. 2232)
Thank you!
Sincerely,
James Ducharme, Principal
Schuylerville High School
