2022-23 HS summer letter/schedules

Dear High School families,

I hope you are enjoying a nice summer. It’s hard to believe that the start of the new school year is right around the corner! Today we are excited to release student schedules for the 2022-23 school year. The schedules are posted to the Student/Parent Portal as of Wednesday, July 20. Our school counselors have been working extensively to ensure that schedules meet the interests and academic needs of our students, creating the best options for future planning.

Scheduling

To meet the demand of balancing class sizes, please be aware that schedule changes to request a preferred teacher or to move a scheduled lunch period will not be entertained.  Students are to be scheduled for at least six credits to stay on track for graduation; the Schuylerville Central School District requirement is 24 credits for graduation. If students are interested in adding courses to their schedule or making a schedule change, they need to email their school counselor.  In the coming weeks, study halls will be added to schedules in any open periods.  If you have any questions about your student’s schedule, please reach out to their school counselor.

College Bootcamp

Class of 2023 seniors are able to get a jump start on their college application process by attending the College Boot Camp Program on August 17 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 p.m. School counselors will be discussing the college search process, how to complete a college application, essay writing, financial aid, and scholarships! Please reach out to your student’s school counselor with any questions.

AP Courses

AP courses allow students to take college-level course work while in high school. Students enrolled in an AP course will be required to take the AP Exam associated with their class in May and pay for the AP Exam. AP Exams costs have not been released by CollegeBoard at this time. Payment information will be sent out once exam costs are released. Students enrolled in AP and college level courses should reach out to their teachers about Summer JumpStart days to get ahead.

Freshman Transition Day

Schuylerville High School will host its annual Freshman Transition Day on Thursday, August 18, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  The Freshman Transition Day has always been a great opportunity for incoming 9th grade students to acclimate to the high school prior to the first day of school. Students will be introduced to high school staff, receive tours of the building, get an overview of high school opportunities, and engage in an interactive presentation, “My Path to Greatness” by Tay Fisher. Additionally, each student will receive their Chromebook for the upcoming school year. Lunch will be provided. The Freshman Transition Day is a student-only event; in September, the high school will host its annual Open House that will provide parents and guardians the opportunity to meet their students’ teachers.

Materials/Supplies

Student supplies vary by teacher and grade level. A comprehensive list by teacher is available on the school district website. For the 2022-23 school year, we will continue to allow students to utilize a book bag/backpack to carry their supplies during the school day. We prefer that students have a clear book bag/backpack but do allow students to use a traditional book bag/backpack.
