Students and teachers safe after whale watch hit rough waters

111 Schuylerville students and teachers are safe after a whale watch boat trip they were aboard hit rough waters off the coast of Boston on Wednesday, May 20. Five students and a chaperone were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital as a precaution, but were later released.

Schuylerville Principal Matthew Sickles, Transportation Director Don Young and Director of Student Services John Haggerty picked up four students and three chaperones at the hospital; one student was released to his parent. The remaining students and chaperones on the trip took a bus back to Schuylerville High School. The whale watch is an annual field trip for the sophomore class.

“It was a scary situation, but we’re thankful that everyone is ok,” Sickles said. “We’re grateful to the staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital for their kindness to our students and chaperones.”
