Schuylerville families in grades 3-6 asked to read book about bullying

The Schuylerville Elementary and Middle Schools, in collaboration with the Schuylerville Public Library, are asking Schuylerville parents with students in grades 3-6 to take some time to read the book I Am Jack, by Susanne Gervay with their child. Students will arrive home with the book on Monday, Sept. 14. I Am Jack is a rites-of-passage book focusing on school bullying reaching adults and children.

Families are asked to complete the book by Monday, Oct. 19. Elementary School Principal Gregg Barthelmas and Middle School Principal Katie Elsworth are asking parents to read the book with their child and to have a discussion about bullying.

The culminating event regarding this initiative is a visit by author Susanne Gervay on Friday, Oct. 23. All students in grades 3-6 will sit through a one hour presentation in the high school auditorium where they will hear about bullying and the character, Jack.
