Superintendent search process outlined
The Schuylerville Central School Board of Education has
begun work on the search to replace Superintendent Leon
Reed, who recently announced his retirement effective
June 30, 2009. Dr. John Stoothoff, District
Superintendent of WSWHE BOCES will be assisting the
Board with the process. Below is a timeline showing the
schedule of activities related to the search.
October 2008
WSWHE BOCES advertises the position regionally and
statewide.
Thursday, November 6, 2008
Dr. Stoothoff held a "Focus Forum." This interview-like
process was used to develop a characteristic profile for
prospective candidates. All interested community
members, parents, students and staff are were

Friday, December 19, 2008
Deadline to submit applications for position. Dr.
Stoothoff will review resumes to be certain that all
candidates are qualified. In some cases, he will also
conduct qualifying interviews with first-time candidates
or candidates with unique backgrounds.
Saturday, January 17, 2009
(8:30 a.m.-noon)
Members of Schuylerville's Board of Education and Dr.
Stoothoff will review all resumes and select eight to 10
candidates and also select the committee of 30.
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
(2-6 p.m.), Thursday, January 29, 2009 (5-9 p.m.)
and, if necessary, Saturday, January 31, 2009 (9
a.m.-noon)
Members of Schuylerville's Board of Education and Dr.
Stoothoff will conduct interviews of the eight to 10
candidates.
Wednesday, February 25, 2009
(5:30-9 p.m.) and Thursday, February 26, 2009 (6-9 p.m.)
The committee of 30 school and community members will
interview approximately five semifinalists in the Jr.-Sr.
High School chorus room. The Board of Education and Dr.
Stoothoof will review the committee's reaction to the
semifinalists.
Thursday, March 5, 2009
(Special Board Meeting)
The Board of Education will select two or three
finalists.
Monday, March 16,
2009-Thursday, March 19, 2009
The finalists will return to the district individually
to tour the facilities and the community. In addition,
staff and community members will meet with the finalists
and, in the evening, candidates will present their
proposed entry plan to the community. District staff,
parents and community members are invited to participate
in both meetings.
Monday, March 23, 2009-Friday,
March 27, 2009
Members of the Schuylerville Board of Education will
visit the finalists' current districts.
Monday, March 30, 2009-Friday,
April 3, 2009
The Schuylerville Board of Education will select the
district's next superintendent of schools. The
superintendent-elect and the Board of Education will
prepare an employment contract.
Tuesday, April 21, 2009
The Board of Education will conduct a special meeting to
appoint the new superintendent of schools.
Wednesday, July 1, 2009
The new superintendent will begin his/her duties in the
district.
