Senior wins Post Star Teen Excellence Award
Schuylerville senior Christine
Bonesteel has been named one of The Post Star's Teen
Excellence honorees. The award recognizes youth who
demonstrate significant levels of innovation,
achievement, individual growth, leadership and
development while also serving as exceptional role
models in the local community and beyond.
The accomplishments that earned Christine this honor are
numerous, including membership in the National Honor
Society and Junior National Honor Society, participation
in student government as class president since 2002 and
membership in the Schuylerville Chapter of FFA, WAVE
(Working Against Violence Everywhere) and MAESTRO
(Musicians Aiding Everyone, Serving Together and
Reaching Others). She has been selected to represent
Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School at many state and
national leadership conferences, including those for the
National Association of Student Councils, the New York
State Council of Leadership and Student Activities and
the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Development
Organization. Christine was also chosen as the student
representative to the Jr.-Sr. High School Building Team.

music, participating in soccer, softball, basketball,
chorus and band.
Her community service activities
are awe-inspiring. She co-founded a local Cinderella's Closet
to collect donations of formal wear so her classmates
could "attend the prom feeling confident and beautiful."
She has also taken steps to involve the district in
activities for Special Olympics, along with participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for
Life, coaching youth soccer and volunteering
for her church and Meals on Wheels.
"Community service is more
than just two words. It's a way of life to change not
only your own life but other people's lives as well,"
Christine says.
These commitment to community service also earned
Christine recognition from Russell Sage College, which
presented her with the 2007 Sage Recognition Nomination.
The award was created to recognize academic excellence,
student leadership and community involvement.
Christine is interested in pursuing a career in
secondary English and has been accepted to SUNY Cortland
and SUNY Oswego. She's waiting to hear from other
