Spanish
Club students replenish local food pantry
Students from
Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School’s Spanish Club spent
the month of March collecting non-perishable food items
to help replenish the food pantry at St. Therese’s
Chapel in Gansevoort. They then went to work sorting the
food and boxing it up for delivery.
“This is the fourth year the students have done this
community service activity,” says Andrea Willson, a
Spanish teacher at the school. “There’s a definite need
to re-fill the shelves at the food pantry after Easter
baskets are made and distributed in the county.”
As of the last week in March, nearly 30 boxes were
overflowing with items ranging from Ramen noodles to
peanut butter, pasta, soup and rice. The pantry serves
residents throughout Saratoga County.
“Everyone is so excited about this project and the
ability to help other people,” comments Schuylerville 11th
grader Erika Streim. “Everyone brings in a little bit
and it all adds up.”
The Spanish Club students finished their
community service project at the end of last week and
the collected items are now on the shelves of the food
pantry. |
