Citing Sources

Reference Examples
Here are examples of how to cite references for encyclopedias, books, magazine articles and Internet sites. Make sure you follow the punctuation, capitalization and underlining of the examples exactly. Put your reference list in alphabetical order by the first word/name of your reference (but ignore starting words like “the,” “a,” or “an”). If no author is known for an encyclopedia, magazine or Internet source, start the reference with the article title.

Encyclopedia reference:

Author Last Name, First Initial. “Article Title.” Encyclopedia Name. Copyright date. Volume number, Page number(s).

Example: Mech, D. “Ostrich.” World Book. 2002 ed. Vol. 17, 16.
