About Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School
JRSRHS@schuylerville.org
The Schuylerville Jr.-Sr.
High School is a community unto itself—a community of
students, staff members, parents, residents and business
partners working together to meet the needs of each
student. We pride ourselves on the fact that we remain a
close-knit group even as we serve a large student body
(approximately 800 students).Our
success in meeting individual needs stems from the focused
work of a team of professionals, including teachers, guidance
counselors, a career education coordinator, a school nurse
teacher, and a psychologist. The school’s curriculum coordinators help ensure courses are aligned with the state’s higher
academic standards.
This team approach to meeting
students’ needs is particularly exciting as we move
through a new millennium. Let us know what you think.

Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School at
a Glance
"Schooling • Caring • Succeeding."
The district’s motto is carried out
each day as students in grades seven through 12 learn and
work in both our school and our community. We have many
outstanding educational and co-curricular programs.
Additionally, our students and staff are known for their
volunteer and service work. Here’s just a sampling of what
makes Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School unique:
-
A Large
Library/Media Center. Students have access to
new and expanded library facilities, along with a
high-tech media center for advanced Internet-based
research.
-
Extended
School Day and Extended School Year.
Schuylerville students can take advantage of extra
academic programs, which are held from 3:00 to 5:00
p.m. The district provides transportation for
participants in this program. Students can also opt
for summer school to help them both develop and
maintain academic skills.
-
A Broad
Selection of Courses.
The Jr.-Sr. High
School offers five Advanced Placement (AP) classes and many
honors-level courses. Electives are varied, as well,
and include such classes as computer graphics,
engineering, digital audio production, gourmet foods
and sports marketing. For a complete list of courses,

Career
Exploration Programs. The district’s Career
Experience Program gives students an opportunity to
test out career interests before they invest money in
college or other training. Students can participate in
shadowing experiences, internships and mentoring
programs. In addition, professionals often come to the
school to make presentations to students about
careers.

-
Highly-Challenging Multi-Year Programs. Students who want even more of a challenge than our
regular curriculum offers can take multi-year courses
in independent research and engineering. In our
multi-year research course, pupils work with mentor
scientists to choose research topics, conduct actual
research experiments and publish results. In our
engineering sequence, students are trained in
engineering design and manufacturing techniques and
applications.
-
Advanced
Computer Training and Facilities. Visitors to
the school are often amazed at Schuylerville’s
computer facilities. There are four general computer
labs available in the Jr.-Sr. High School and five
science computer labs. Our high-tech engineering lab
allows students to gain real-life experiences,
hands-on experience with AUTOCAD and other advanced
software. In addition, each classroom is wired for
computer use and Internet access.

-
Summer
Technology Program. Each summer, students are
invited to learn about robotics, engineering and
computer applications. Participants in the program
also build computers, which are used in district
classrooms and labs.
-
Agriculture
Classes. Many Schuylerville students are
interested in pursuing careers in the field of
agriculture. The school responds to these interests by
offering an array of agriculture classes that cover
such topics as farmstead management, agriculture
skills, wildlife management, aquaculture, hydroponics,
biotechnology and equine management.
-
Teaching
Styles. Teachers are encouraged to use the
research-based style of teaching with which their
students find the most success.
-
A Wide
Variety of Extracurricular Programs.
We offer
a wide range of student activities, including more
than 20 sports teams that compete in more than 200
athletic contests each year. Other extracurricular
activities include Art Club, Student Council,
Yearbook, School Newspaper, FFA (a leadership
organization formerly called Future Farmers of
America), Future Business
Leaders of America, French Club, Spanish Club,
Computer Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions,
Math League and Honor Society. For a complete list of

Respect and
Responsibility. Our peer mediation program, W.A.V.E. (Working Against Violence Everywhere) trains
students to work with their peers to resolve conflict
peacefully in the school. Jr.-Sr. High students in the
W.A.V.E. program also provide training and make
presentations to pupils in the Schuylerville
Elementary School. The respect for our school extends
to the learning environment. Students, parents and
visitors consistently comment about the cleanliness of
the facilities.
