High school students visit local research lab

Students pose for photo outside research labSchuylerville High School students in Mrs. Flores’ Living Environment class got the opportunity to tour the Skidmore Microscopy Imaging Center (SMIC) on the Skidmore College campus on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Students were able to learn about various microscopes that research labs use. They took a tour of research labs that use Scanning Electron Microscopes, Transmission Electron Microscopes, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopes and Fluorescent Light Microscopes.

Students will now have the opportunity to apply for the Young Scholars Cell Biology Summer Institute where they will have the opportunity to work in various fields of cell biology and do research using these microscopes.
