Schuylerville Jr.-Sr. High School Clubs
and Co-Curricular Activities
Art Club
Advisor: Ms. Reid
Meetings:
10th period on Mondays in room 218
The Sr. High Art club is open to any student in grades
9-12 interested in creating artwork. Work can be
independent, group-oriented (collaborations), or such
specific projects as pottery, digital photography, murals,
fundraisers, etc. Students will have an opportunity to
enter art shows and competitions, to experience art
mediums they might not have a chance to use in regular
school day classes and to go on a field trip to a museum
of fine art.
Art & Literary Journal (Looking Glass)
Advisors: Mrs.
Sorrentino & Mrs. Reid
Meetings:

Open to all students in grades 7-12. In May/June of each
school year, a compilation of original literature and
artwork is published. Meetings are held in early October
to discuss submission requirements. Students receive all
publication information in their English and art classes.
Advisors are available to work individually with
writers/artists.
Band (Jr. & Sr. High)

Meetings:
10th period every Thursday
The Jr. High Jazz Band is open to 7th and 8th grade band
students by audition. The group performs at school
concerts and community events. Students in Jr. High Jazz
Band will have the opportunity to explore the various jazz
styles and to improvise.
Women’s Select Chorus

Meetings:
7:00 a.m. every Tuesday
The purpose for the Women’s Select Chorus is to provide
opportunities for exceptional singers to expand their
vocal talents. They will do this by studying vocal
literature and performing in the Sr. High concerts, as
well as school and community events. The Women’s Select is
an auditioned group, open to students in grades 8-12.
M.A.E.S.T.R.O.
Advisor: Mrs.
Leight
Meetings:
Friday during 10th period in the chorus room
M.A.E.S.T.R.O (Musicians Aiding Everyone, Serving
Together, Reaching Others) is a community service
organization open to any student participating the Jr.-Sr.
High Music Department. This group meets with the purpose
of a specific service project in mind.
Drama Club
Advisors:

Schuylerville’s Drama Club is a once a year club that is
open to all students in grades 7-12. Each year the club
alternates between performing a drama production and a
musical. This year, the Drama Club will be presenting the
musical The Wizard of Oz on November 10, 11 and 12, 2005.
Although the cast is set for the show, any student wishing
to help out with the production is still welcome to join.
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)

Meetings:
10th period on second & fourth Thursdays
As a member of FBLA, you’ll build your resume, meet
business leaders in your community and beyond, experience
the rewards of volunteerism and enjoy travel and special
activities. Schuylerville’s FBLA holds the annual Snowball
Semi-formal. Through this event, students exercise their
leadership and teamwork skills. We also volunteer each
year at the Ronald McDonald House in Albany. FBLA offers
students these community service opportunities along with
many more. Furthermore, students are able to attend annual
conferences and take part in business competitions.
Jr. High FBLA

Jr. High Future Business Leaders of America is open to all
7th and 8th grade students. The club gives junior high
students an opportunity to work with peers on various
activities that benefit the school community, as well as
our district community. Students explore the skills that
all good business leaders need while running the school
bookstore each day during lunch periods and after school.
Jr. High FBLA also sponsors an annual trip to Great Escape
each June. In the past, we have also sponsored day trips
and overnight trips to Boston, New York City, Washington,
Gettysburg, and Philadelphia.
FFA

Meetings:

The Future Farmers of America members compete in contests
such as speech, FFA creed, parliamentary procedures,
agriculture communications, agriculture sales and talent.
We have six students attending the National Convention in
October. We have a chapter banquet the first Wednesday in
June.
French Club
Advisor: Mrs.
Rogers
Meetings:
10th period last Wednesday of month
French Club conducts activities that relate to the study
of French but cannot be easily incorporated into class
time. We prepare French dishes to enjoy (chocolate mousse
and crèpes) and we purchase croissants to have with café
au lait. We play French games: Scrabble in French, Mille
Bornes and Jeopardy in French. We also do fundraisers to
finance a dinner at a local French restaurant (Saratoga
Lake Bistro) and to make a donations to the Caring and
Sharing Program in the high school and to the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation. Our fundraisers include a car wash in
May and the sale of French chocolates at different times
throughout the school year.
Home and Careers Club

Meetings:
10th period the first and third Tuesdays
Come join a fun hands-on group! We enjoy making crafts and
holiday projects, along with baking and community service
activities. We have fun while learning many types of
projects. In the past we’ve made holiday items, jewelry,
stamping projects, paintings, teddy bears, ceramics, etc.
Jr. High Book Club & Sr. High Book Club
Advisor: Mrs.
Nelligan (Jr. High) & Mrs. Berger (Sr. High)
Meetings:
10th period on Friday
We read high-quality books and discuss them as a group;
students are also encouraged to give “booktalks” about
what they have read on their own. There will be a field
trip, participation in a book drive for schools devastated
by Hurricane Katrina, and a great deal of snacking! All
students in grades 7-12 are welcome to join.
Mock Trial Team
Advisor: Mr.
Coryea
Mock Trial program is sponsored by the Saratoga County Bar
Association and gives students in grades 9-12 an
opportunity to participate in two league trials. Teams
must prepare to represent both sides of the case
(plaintiff/prosecution and defendant) and will work with a
local attorney to develop legal strategy and courtroom
procedures. The case can be civil or criminal and tends to
reflect current events. After receiving trial booklets in
November, the team will practice regularly until
competition season begins in February. Trials are open to
parents and spectators.
Math League

Meetings:
10th period last Thursday of month
Math League members engage in the rigorous competition of
solving challenging word problems that require the use of
critical thinking skills. Participants compete with local
area high schools from the Washington, Warren and Saratoga
Counties. The following students represent the 2005-2006
Schuylerville Math League team: Lucia Cappiello, Kyle
Fassett, Sabrina Green, Rebecca Harro (co-captain),
Susanna Harro, George Hodgson (co-captain), Cassie Imfeld,
Jen Lopez, Matthew Malin, John Mannix, Kara Peterson,
Jeanne Rice, and Gage Woomer.
National Honor Society

National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes
outstanding students in junior high and senior high
school. It honors those students who have demonstrated
excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership,
service and character.
Pep Band
Advisor: Mr.

Meetings:

The Fall Pep Band provides spirit and entertainment at the
Home Varsity Football games (during the months of
September and October). The Pep Band is open to all
students grades 7 -12 who are enrolled in either Jr. High
Band or Symphonic Band. The group performs a variety of
upbeat and exciting pieces from both the pop and college
song catalogs.
Quiz Team

10th period every Monday
Quiz Team is an academic team that participates in the
Post Star Academic Quiz Bowl. This is a league consisting
of 24 schools from Troy’s Emma Willard to Indian Lake. Our
season begins in early September and may go until March.
We play a series of five games both random and matched.
The games are played at Queensbury High School in a
Jeopardy-type fashion. Schools that accumulate enough
points participate in play-off games. The team also
participates in the Viking Challenge sponsored by Hudson
Valley Community College. This event takes place in early
spring and is very much enjoyed by our students. Our final
occasion of the year is a team dinner, where we take the
opportunity to thank our players for a job well done and
for representing the community of Schuylerville so well.
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)

The club stands for Students Against Destructive
Decisions. We plan activities to send that message, such
as: signing of the prom promise, red ribbons at Christmas,
Safe Spring Conference at Skidmore, speakers to students
from MADD (as an example), letters to prom attendees from
elementary students encouraging them to have a safe time.
School Newspaper (The Stampede)

Meetings:
10th period every Tuesday and Friday
Our goal is to produce a high-quality newspaper that
appeals to students and staff alike. It highlights news,
sports, student activities and achievements, as well as
entertains people with cartoons, drawings, poems, stories
and more. Staff learns how to put together a
professional-looking paper from start to finish. They can
learn to take pictures, do graphic design and put the
paper together using software applications. In addition,
they have the opportunity to obtain course credit in
journalism if they are willing to make a bigger commitment
to the paper (60 hrs. - ½ credit, 120 hrs. - full credit).
Ski Club

The Ski Club gives Jr.-Sr. High students the opportunity
to ski or snowboard at Willard Mountain, as well as
participate in the end of season trip to Whiteface.
Spanish Club

10th period on the first and third Wednesday of each month
As a group, we discuss a variety of fundraising ideas in
hopes of giving back to the community. Our most successful
contributions have been “Hot Tomales” raffles in October
to benefit the Empty Stocking Fund here at SCS, “Day of
the Three Kings Raffle” in January, and during “Foreign
Language Month” in March, our Food Drive to help stock the
St. Theresa’s Food Pantry in Gansevoort. At the end of the
year, we often share an evening of conversation and dinner
at the Mexican Connection in Saratoga.
Student Council

The purpose of Student Council is to contribute in the
life of the school, work for the school and always work
with the students by providing support, aid and service
for the benefit of both the school and the student. We are
a leadership organization that is involved in many aspects
of school and community on the local, state, regional and
national levels. Membership is open to students in grades
7-12.

The Jr. High class officers are nominated by their peers
to represent and adhere to questions/concerns from any 7th
or 8th grade student. The Jr. High class officers also
administer various activities, such as school dances, in
efforts to integrate the junior high classes. Class of

Sophomore year is very exciting for Schuylerville’s 10th
grade students as they continue to fundraise for their
class account, receive their class rings and participate
in a class trip. During the 2006-2007 school year, the
Sophomore Class Officers will be running open class
meetings. All students in grade 10 are encouraged to
attend these meetings. President – Christine Bonesteel;
Vice President – Katie Hanehan; Secretary – Marissa Riggi;
Treasurer – Jennifer Lopez; Class Representative – Anthony
Casimano.
Junior Class Officers

The Junior Class participates in several fundraising
activities throughout the school year, from selling
Entertainment Books to having donuts/juice/granola bars on
sale for the students on Friday mornings. The majority of
the money raised is used to help offset the expenses
incurred from the Junior Prom. A portion of the money is
also carried over with them into their senior year. All
class members are strongly encouraged to participate in a
community service project during the year. This could
involve a monetary donation or a donation of time and/or
talents.
This year's Junior Prom will be held at the Georgian
Resort on Lake George on the evening of May 20, 2006.

The officers meet once a month to discuss business that
affects the entire class. The Seniors Class sponsors many
exciting activities, such as: The Escape to Paradise,
Hoop-A-Palooza, Rock Concert/Talent Show, Monthly Theme
Dances, Cinderfella, Powder Puff Football …..and more. All
of these activities are designed to entertain fellow
students, as well as raise money for the Senior Class Trip
to Grad Nite at Disney World and the Senior Yearbook
Signing Dance Party!!
W.A.V.E. (Working Against Violence Everywhere)

The WAVE program works under the premise that peer
leadership programs are the most effective kinds of
prevention programs. Our main objectives are to reinforce
violence prevention skills and to use peer mediation to
resolve conflicts.

The 2007 Schuyler Yearbook Club gives students in grades
7-12 the opportunity to be a part of a very busy staff
that creates an exciting publication for their classmates.
Through hard work, dedication to details and the right
touch of creativity, students develop ideas into reality.
Members dabble in the art of layout, photography,
journalism/creative writing, advertising and sales. Come
join us and help make your high school memories last
forever!
