Here's information on some scholarship and funding opportunities available to high school students. More information on these and other scholarships is available in the Student Services Center. Please note: many scholarships are offered annually, so if the deadline has passed, check back again.
Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards: For students who have made a
difference through volunteering. $1,000 award and trip to Washington,
D.C.

Soroptimists
of the Adirondacks' Violet Richardson Award: $1,000 award given to
young women between the ages of 14 and 17 in Washington, Warren and
Northern Saratoga County who volunteer in their communities.

Elks
National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship: Based on
leadership activities, honors/awards, community service and financial
need. More than 500 scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $15,000.

The
Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) Freedom in Academia
Student Essay Contest: High school seniors invited to write an
in-depth essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are
crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the
college experience. First place: $10,000; second place: $5,000; runners
up (three awards): $1,000; second runners up (four awards): $500.

Burger
King Scholarship Program: Awards of $1,000 and $50,000 to
graduating students; additional awards available to Burger
King employees and their dependent children.

Empire
State Potato Growers, Inc.: Scholarships of $500 per academic
year for up to four years. Full-time academic study in the field of
agriculture; eligibility also depends on academic achievement and
leadership abilities.

Union Association of New York: Scholarships in the amount of $500
or $1,000 to member in good standing of a participating New York credit
union. Selection criteria include academic achievement, extra curricular
and community activities and a 300- to 500-word essay, etc.

New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) Major Scholarship:
Four-year scholarship worth a total of $10,000. Applicants must be
enrolling in a full-time college program with a focus on environmental
issues.

New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) Scholarships:
Offering six scholarships ($1,500 each) to: Two children of NYWEA
members, two students enrolled at a college or university with an NYWEA

Hudson River Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA): Up to

League Rockwell Scholarship Award:
Scholarship award of no less than $1,000. Applicants must be females
living in the Capital District who are involved in volunteer
organizations or activities that have the same or a similar focus as
those of the Junior League of Albany. Requires essay.

of Fire Districts Ned Carter Scholarship:
Four awards of $1,500 scholarships. Eligible applicants are those
entering careers of services to the community (fire service-related,
nursing, social work, health-related services, teacher, librarian,
etc.).

Firemen's
Association of New York State (FANYS) Volunteer Firefighter Scholarship
Program: Applicant or applicant's parent must be FANYS member in
good standing. Fifteen $1,000 scholarships awarded to volunteer
firefighter or EMS volunteer.

Retiree Council 10 Scholarship:
$500 scholarship to one student from each of the following four
counties: Saratoga, Washington, Albany and Rensselaer. For aspiring

Berkshire
Bank Foundation Scholarship Awards:
Offering nine scholarships worth $1,500 each to students in New York who
are in a city or town served by Berkshire Bank. Applicants must have
record of volunteerism in non-school-sponsored activities and
participation in extracurricular school activities, minimum 3.0 GPA and
annual family income below $75,000.
