Internship
Program
The internship program, like mentioned on the Career
Education main page, is a way to get hands-on experience
in a profession of choice.
It is open only to high school seniors, and an application
process must ensue in order to be a part of the program.
The requirements are as follows:
Application filled out and returned to Mr. Rossley or
Mrs. O'Brien
the Career Education Office.
Time and
date given for interview.
Interview
takes place with Mr. Rossley or Mrs. O'Brien. Prospective interns should
dress appropriately (such as for a job interview).
Acceptance
notices sent out over summer vacation.
Interview
with proposed first mentor before school begins.
Orientation process during the first few days of school.
Every intern is expected
to treat mentors and all other workers with the respect
and courtesy that each deserves.
Requirements of an Intern
While the students have been accepted into the program,
the terms aren’t limited to just the interview process.
There are several things that are important to an intern’s
grade and development in Career Education.
Every intern has a portfolio in which nearly everything
from the program is stored. This can and will be useful in
the future, as it is a testament of their experience and
skill. Several main parts of the portfolio include:
Each week,
interns must fill out and have their mentor sign a time
slip, indicating that they were present each day that
was obligatory.
In
addition to a time slip, weekly journal entries of
experiences are also necessary.
Five
weeks into each internship an Occupational Project is
due.
After
the end of each internship a reflection paper is due,
speaking of experiences and memories one had.
Miscellaneous pictures, forms, projects that can be
stored in a binder to represent one’s experience.
