Career Education
as Preparation for “Real World”
Establishing oneself in the real world is full of
responsibility that is generally not expected by students.
Because of these challenges, the Schuylerville Career
Education Program was instituted to aid students with
professional and life choices.
The program benefits all
involved, mentors, students and community alike. Pupils
who partake in such secure more aplomb and gain abilities
that will be advantageous to possess later in life. They
are inspired to produce the highest amount of effort
possible and be immersed in gratifying extracurricular
activities.
Who can be a mentor?
Virtually anyone could be part of the Career Education
Program. There is no expense and the experience of sharing
one’s expertise and ardor for the profession may be the
incentive that a student needs to get involved. Mentors
are just experienced and proficient workers who welcome
curious interns into their atelier in order to exchange
ideas within their common field.
Speaker’s Bureau—Be
Influential!
Speaker’s Bureau is for those who wish to bestow their
experience, talents and various skills upon the students
of Schuylerville. Whilst joining this group, one will be
added to a directory that is distributed to all teachers.
The teachers will then give these directly to students;
also, instructors may be personally contacting speakers
for appointments with potential interns or attracted
students.
Shadowing—A Taste of Reality
Normally initiated before a student enters tenth grade,
shadowing combines professionals with students in a blend
of enthusiasm, work ethics and beneficial skills. With
this portion of the Career Education Program, usually
within the Home and Careers course, students can apply
information acquired from classroom investigating to life
situations and occupations. This is an opportunity for all
who participate to experience careers that intrigue - and
find if the chosen job is right for them.
Internship—The “Ins and Outs”
of Life
This section of the Career Education Program is open only
to high school seniors, who experience all elements of the
profession of their choice. Students are required to
submit an application, dress and act appropriately for
interview and then, if selected, are obligated to go
through the orientation process.

Career Day—A Jump Start on Life
This program is geared toward seventh and eighth grade Jr.
High students in an effort to give them the earliest
possible opportunity to make occupational choices. Several
professionals from a variety of fields come to the school
and speak to the students. They make suggestions to those
who are interested in said line of work, giving examples
of experiences they have had; some even bring in samples
of work that has been completed.
